It’s a shame, because I know there are parts of yr job that you really love, but it’s always a balancing act and when it tips too far it’s time to start looking for something else. The aspects of yr job you love, can you find another job w/those?
I’m sure I can, but I worry the downsides are going to be the same no matter where I go if I stay in pet care. I really don’t enjoy management, but if I’m just doing the pet care part of the job I won’t be able to make enough money to pay all my bills. My dream job would be to do what I do with Ivan- hiking and trail running- with other people’s dogs. I would have to charge so much, though, especially for hiking trips because it takes all day and I would have to spend a lot of money on gas, that I don’t think people would be willing to pay for it.
I’ve also thought about going to grooming school. It’s the most practical move to make because I won’t have to work as many hours and a good groomer can still make good money even without working long hours. I could even run a grooming shop from my house and then there’s no transportation or contracting involved. I know I could be a very good groomer if I went to school. But it’s an investment, and you have to have so much patience to be a good groomer- I just don’t know if I really want to do that.
Pet portraiture would be fun, but I’m not that good at it. I can do a decent job of drawing dogs, but I suck at using color, and I’m not that great at capturing expression and personality- my drawings end up looking like generic sketches a lot of the time.
